A warm welcome to author Jordan Thomas!

A Q & A with author Jordan Thomas!

What inspired you to begin writing? Music inspired me to write, specifically songwriting. The joy of interpreting one's thoughts into something so beautiful and melodic is mesmerizing.

Why did you focus on this genre?I focus on this particular genre (poetry) because it's an effective form of expressing my thoughts clearly and authentically. There is no fluff in my poetry. In some poems there is some extended vocabulary but that isn't to be pretentious, I've studied those words for years reading the thesaurus.

Are you working on any other books?
For now yes, but at a much slower pace due to my new job and the upcoming college quarter next month. This next one will be a departure from poetry and will focus on the importance of creativity and how it has shaped my life.

Okay, here's a challenge. Sum up your current book in TWO sentences. My current book (Ascension: The Journey Continues) is semi-autobiographical.
It is what I refer to as poetic motivation to everyday things.

Where can people buy your book?
The book can be purchased via Amazon only! Ascension!

What are the 3 words that best describe you?
Creative, Sensitive, and Honest

Tell us about your work, away from writing?
My soon-to-be work which I start this Friday will be as a team member of a fabric and crafts store named Joann's. This job I believe will be great for me since it requires creative people. It will give me a chance to step out of my comfort zone and out of shyness.

What hobbies do you enjoy?
Aside from writing, I enjoy reading, singing, dancing, playing piano, going for walks, and at times, meditation.

What would people be most surprised to see on your Kindle or bookshelf?
I don't think anyone will be surprised. What I pretty much read currently is the Bible, motivational books from those such as Grant Cardone, Les Brown, etc, as well as Christian devotional/leadership books from people like Sam Chand.

What are you currently reading?
I'm currently reading The Bible (Psalms 34) as well as The Purpose-Driven Life by Rick Warren.

Tell me your 3 favourite authors?
My three favorite authors include Sam Chand, Grant Cardone, and Nelson Mandela

I love music, and always interested in the musical tastes of other people. Tell me your 3 favourite songs, if you can?
At the moment, my three favorite songs include Change by Andrea Helms, Damnable Heresies by Lauryn Hill, and More Than You Know by Sarah Vaughan.

What song best describes your life?
At this point, the song that best describes my life is I Look To You by Whitney Houston because in the midst of seeking the purpose intended for me, there are going to be obstructions but if I keep the Creator in mind in where I'm headed in life, then any chance of the enemy causing blockage will be eliminated.

In the story of your life, who would you like to play you?
In years to come, I would like my future son to play me. But that won't be happening in a long time. For now, I can't really say who.

Who is the person, living or dead, you would most like to spend a day with?
I'd like to personally spend a day with many people, mostly friends I have yet to meet in actuality and to spend time with them would be such an amazing day for me.

Finally, what's next for you?
My second year of college is next for me as well as this job. In terms of projects, my third book which will be titled Lead, Don't Follow after what my dad has told me all my life will be out in early 2017.

A warm welcome to author Carol Cooper!

Carol Cooper answers Questions from David P Perlmutter.

Amazon link to my latest novel Hampstead Fever myBook.to/HF (it’s a universal link which goes to the appropriate Amazon site for that territory)

Welcome! Thanks for joining me here.  What should my followers know about you?

Thank you very much for inviting me, David.

I was born in London, not far from where I now live, but there were decades of living here, there, and everywhere. After qualifying as a doctor, I got into health journalism and had columns in titles as varied as The Sun and The Lancet. I then wrote a string of non-fiction books before getting serious about writing fiction. My first novel One Night at the Jacaranda was soon followed by Hampstead Fever, which came out in July.

What inspired you to begin writing?

A lonely childhood. For years I lived with my mother in a one-room flat, and I would escape to the laundry room downstairs in the company of a large imaginary family. I read a lot, and was soon writing all kinds of stories, including gruesome tales of witches dying as a result of smoking in bed.

Why did you focus on this genre?

Contemporary fiction is what I most enjoy reading, so that makes it the obvious genre for me. My novels are written from multiple points of view, male as well as female. This may stem from the fact that, as a GP, every ten minutes I try to put myself in the shoes of a different patient.

Are you working on any other books?

I’m working on another book featuring some of the same characters from my first two novels.

Okay, here's a challenge. Sum up your current book in TWO sentences.

Hampstead Fever follows the intertwined lives of six Londoners one hot summer as they grapple with relationships, money worries, difficult children, and ailing parents. Emotions rise to boiling point in the heatwave, and each person makes mistakes they shouldn’t be making when pushing forty.

Where can people buy your book?

In bookstores and online via Amazon and other retailers.

What are the 3 words that best describe you?

Witty, caring, loyal.

Tell us about your work, away from writing?

I’m a part-time family doctor in London, and I teach medical students at Imperial College. It’s a real thrill training the doctors of tomorrow. I’m also a journalist for The Sun newspaper, so I write a quick expert comment whenever a health story breaks, be it a radiation spill or a celeb hurting herself as she stumbles out of a nightclub. And I do some TV and radio.

What hobbies do you enjoy?

I enjoy gardening, and of course I love reading, as I’m sure every author tells you. Occasionally, however, doing absolutely nothing seems a pretty good way to spend time…

What would people be most surprised to see on your Kindle or bookshelf?

A big fat Latin dictionary which my mother gave me when I was 12 or 13.

What are you currently reading?

I’ve just started Amna Boheim’s novel The Silent Children. It’s a ghost story, so not the kind of thing I usually read, but it is hauntingly beautiful.

Tell me your 3 favourite authors?

Kate Atkinson, Maggie O’Farrell, and Howard Jacobson.

I love music, and am always interested in the musical tastes of other people. Tell me your 3 favourite songs, if you can?

They would have to be I Am the Walrus by The Beatles, The Lovin’ Spoonful’s Summer in the City, and Marc Anthony’s I Need to Know.

What song best describes your life?

American Pie by Don McLean. I’m not American, but I lived in the USA for many years, and I get the bits of the song that are about nostalgia.

In the story of your life, who would you like to play you?
Meryl Streep. No contest.

Who is the person, living or dead, you would most like to spend a day with?
Charles Dickens. We’d talk about writing, people, and of course London.

Finally, what’s next for you?

That London novel I mentioned, featuring six main characters. It’ll be followed by a book set in Cambridge. At some point I’ll also write a novel set in Alexandria, where I spent much of my childhood. The story will go back to the mid-1940s and forward to the Arab Spring in 2011. I’m not sure of the plot yet, but I can guarantee there will be plenty of memorable characters.

Trickery by Constance Masters!

TRICKERY!

Morgan King is a twenty-three-year-old virgin who has never had a proper boyfriend. The fussy young woman longs to meet a man who will be everything like the heroes in the spanking romance novels she loves to read. When such a man comes along, Morgan is sure that he must be too good to be true. Although they’ve had a great online relationship for months, she balks at actually meeting him.

Jackson Brooks is a twenty-nine-year-old middle school teacher who works at his family’s summer camp. When he gets to know Morgan on the Internet, he is sure she’s the girl for him. They are both ready to settle down, and he doesn’t understand why she is so hesitant to meet him in person. When he discovers that she has sent him a fake photo, he is not happy. He can’t deal with it right away, however, because summer camp is about to begin, and this year, he’s the director. He decides to give Morgan some space while he does what he has to.

Morgan is devastated when she realizes she has probably blown things with Jackson. She is desperate, and hatches a plan to get to know him secretly. She books herself into Sunnyvale Summer Camp under the name of Alyssa King, using her sister’s birth certificate. Instead of assuring herself that nothing could possibly go wrong, she should have been asking herself what would happen when Jackson discovered her deceit. Will he be so angry that he sends her away, or will he choose another method of showing his displeasure – demonstrating that insects aren’t the only things at camp that sting?

DISCLAIMER: This book contains the spanking of adult women.

An interview with author Helene Leuschel

Welcome, Helene. Thanks for joining me here on my blog.  What should my readers know about you?
It’s a pleasure to join you on your blog.

I was born in Brussels of German parents and grew up believing that languages open the door to other cultures, to people and I now know that it really is a great way to step outside the idea of national identity and its many restrictions. I have lived in London and Edinburgh and was lucky that my job as a reporter and producer allowed me to travel extensively worldwide until I met the love of my life. We moved to Belgium together for a few years, then decided to take our two children to live in Southern Portugal where life is so much simpler, healthier and laid back than in a big city. That’s where I learnt yet another language, found more time again to write, pick up the study of philosophy and eventually the project of my first work of fiction. I love the written word ever since I started reading as a child, devouring Enid Blyton’s books.

What inspired you to begin writing Manipulated Lives?

During the studies for my MA in Philosophy, I developed a keen interest for psychology, the philosophy of mind and more specifically the human capacity for empathy. Personal tragic circumstances (a close relative has been the victim of psychological abuse for almost two decades) and the completion of a couple of creative writing courses with the OU and Oxford University have eventually made me pick up a pen and transfer my ideas into the writing of this collection of novellas. Manipulators are everywhere and to some extent we all do use manipulative tools to reach our goals. It is a survival skill but one that if present in a narcissistic and perverted individual who lacks the capacity for empathy is dangerous for all those who get in contact with them.

Why did you focus on this genre?

There are many fantastic publications out there explaining narcissistic personality disorders already. What I wished to achieve with my fives stories is to make readers think about the idea that nothing is ever what it seems. Our capacity to interpret fellow human beings may be successful most of the times and helps us navigate through social life. Yet, when we are in the presence of a manipulative individual with a perversion, it’s a very different ballgame.

Are you working on any other books?

Yes, I am currently working on a second collection, themed around a different topic. I am also working on my first novel.

Okay, here's a challenge. Sum up your current book in TWO sentences.

My book is exploring the impact of psychological manipulation on people of different ages and backgrounds. The five novellas are separate yet each aims to take the reader to question the idea that nothing is ever what it seems at first sight.

Where can people buy your book?

Readers can find my book in kindle format or as a paperback on all online Amazon sites.

What are the 3 words that best describe you?
That’s a difficult question. I had to ask my family and they said: outgoing, observant & inquisitive

What other creative endeavors do you enjoy?

I am a trained yoga teacher, practice mediation and I love writing philosophical essays.

What would people be most surprised to see on your Kindle or bookshelf?

Maybe they’d be surprised to see Jeffrey Archer’s Prison Diaries and a beginner’s textbook to learn Chinese.

How about your playlist?

I actually don’t have one. I’m a radio girl, so the music comes on as soon as I sit in a car.

I love music, and I’m always interested in the musical tastes of my friends. Tell me your 3 favourite songs.

I don’t really have favourites but on top of my head I would say, I’d love to listen to the following three right now.
Sade’s ‘By your side’
Imagine Dragon’s ‘On top of the world’
Michael Jackson’s ‘Heal the world’

What song best describes your life?

Pharrell Williams ‘Happy’ because I am a happy person most of the time.

In the story of your life, who would you like to play you?

Juliette Binoche is my favourite actress, so I guess I’d like her to be the one …

Who is the person, living or dead, you would most like to spend a day with?

It’s difficult to decide on just one …I guess, spontaneously, I would like to spend a day with Simone de Beauvoir. She was a philosopher and writer with a passion for hiking. So, I’d take her to the Monchique hills in the Algarve with a picnic introducing her to local Portuguese specialties. We’d walk along the many lonely paths and I’d have enough questions to fill the silence that would surround us.

Finally, what’s next for you?

I have two books planned, one with my second collection of short stories and the other a novel.

Manipulated Lives is FREE Saturday, Sunday and Monday!

Manipulated Lives by H.A.Leuschel is FREE Saturday, Sunday and Monday!

Five stories – Five Lives.
Have you ever felt confused or at a loss for words in front of a spouse, colleague or parent, to the extent that you have felt inadequate or, worse, a failure? Do you ever wonder why someone close to you seems to endure humiliation without resistance?

Manipulators are everywhere. At first these devious and calculating people can be hard to spot, because that is their way. They are often masters of disguise: witty, disarming, even charming in public – tricks to snare their prey – but then they revert to their true self of being controlling and angry in private. Their main aim: to dominate and use others to satisfy their needs, with a complete lack of compassion and empathy for their victim.

In this collection of short novellas, you meet people like you and me, intent on living happy lives, yet each of them, in one way or another, is caught up and damaged by a manipulative individual. First you meet a manipulator himself, trying to make sense of his irreversible incarceration. Next, there is Tess, whose past is haunted by a wrong decision, then young, successful and well balanced Sophie, who is drawn into the life of a little boy and his troubled father. Next, there is teenage Holly, who is intent on making a better life for herself and finally Lisa, who has to face a parent’s biggest regret. All stories highlight to what extent abusive manipulation can distort lives and threaten our very feeling of self-worth.
